The World Beyond the Screen
In the small town of Havenbrook, 17-year-old Mia had always felt like an outsider. She wasn’t particularly athletic, didn’t enjoy school parties, and found herself lost in the endless sea of social media that her peers seemed to thrive on. Her escape was Chrono Realm, an online fantasy game that allowed her to immerse herself in an entirely different world.
In Chrono Realm, Mia wasn’t just a high school girl struggling to fit in—she was Arianna, a fierce warrior with shimmering silver armor and a sword that could split mountains. Arianna was known throughout the realm for her bravery and sharp intellect. She had a tight-knit group of companions—players from all over the world who, like Mia, found solace in this digital fantasy world. There was Xeno, a strategic genius from South Korea; Rika, a healer from Japan with an infectious laugh; and Kai, a quiet but powerful mage from Brazil.
For months, they had worked together to defeat beasts, conquer dungeons, and protect their kingdom from the encroaching darkness that threatened the world of Chrono Realm. They communicated through voice chats, sharing not only strategies for their next battle but also stories about their real lives. Mia found herself confiding in them in ways she couldn’t with anyone at school. They became her second family.
One night, after a long battle against a particularly difficult dragon, something strange happened. The game’s usual victory screen didn’t appear. Instead, a message flashed across Mia’s monitor:
"Congratulations, chosen one. The true quest begins now."
Before Mia could react, the screen glowed with a blinding white light, and suddenly, everything around her shifted. She wasn’t sitting at her desk anymore. The faint hum of her computer fan was gone, replaced by the sound of wind rustling through trees. Her bedroom walls had vanished, replaced by towering forests and rolling hills. Looking down, Mia gasped—she was no longer wearing her usual jeans and hoodie. Instead, she was clad in gleaming silver armor.
She had become Arianna.
Mia—no, Arianna—felt the weight of her sword at her side and the power that coursed through her body. This wasn’t just a game anymore. It was real.
Just then, Xeno, Rika, and Kai appeared, materializing in the same armor and robes they wore in the game. Their voices, no longer coming through headphones, sounded crystal clear as they stood before her in the flesh.
“Is this… real?” Kai asked, his usually calm demeanor shaken.
“I think so,” Mia said, still trying to wrap her mind around what had just happened. “But how?”
Before they could discuss further, a roar echoed through the forest. The ground shook, and from the trees emerged a massive, menacing creature—a far larger, more terrifying version of the dragon they had just fought in the game. Its eyes glowed red, and smoke billowed from its nostrils as it stalked toward them.
The group instinctively fell into formation, just as they had hundreds of times in the game. Xeno took the front, shield raised, while Rika began casting healing spells. Kai summoned a powerful storm of lightning, while Arianna—Mia—charged forward, sword drawn.
The battle was fierce, and far more dangerous than anything they had experienced in front of their screens. But as they fought together, it became clear: everything they had learned in Chrono Realm—every tactic, every skill—was real here. They weren’t just players anymore; they were heroes, fighting to save a world that needed them.
After what felt like hours, they finally defeated the beast. As it crumbled into dust, a voice echoed around them:
"You are now the protectors of this realm. The game was only the beginning."
The group exchanged glances, both exhilarated and terrified. They didn’t know how they had been brought into this world, or what other dangers awaited them, but one thing was clear: this was no longer just a game. Their real lives, their real struggles—they all seemed distant now, compared to the adventure that lay before them.
Mia felt a surge of confidence. For the first time, she wasn’t just escaping into Chrono Realm—she was living it. Here, she wasn’t the shy girl from Havenbrook. Here, she was Arianna, the warrior destined to save a kingdom.
And she wouldn’t face this new world alone.
